AI study assistant

Course-scoped chat.

Scoped to the 8-module curriculum. Refuses off-topic questions, cites the specific module, never invents syntax. A study tool, not a substitute for teaching.

Built on Anthropic Claude with system prompts that constrain it to verifiable Quietshift curriculum content only. Conversations are not stored after the session ends.

U
I'm stuck on the Module 3 dbt incremental model exercise. The is_incremental() macro errors out.
Q
In Module 3 (dbt Modeling), the is_incremental() macro only works inside a model with materialized='incremental'. The most common error is using it in a view-materialized model. Check your config block in the .sql file.

If you're already on incremental and still erroring, paste the actual error message and I'll narrow it. If it's a logic question, post in office hours — Jordan goes deeper than I can.

Try: "what's the difference between staging and intermediate" · "when do I use a sensor in Airflow" · "do you cover Snowflake cost optimization"

Frequently asked

Most questions answered here.

Who is the cohort right for?

Mid-career engineers (5-10 yrs) in backend or full-stack, comfortable in Python, looking to pivot into data engineering for higher comp + better long-term role stability. Application review confirms the fit honestly — about 30% of applicants are turned away because the cohort isn't the right level.

What if I am not Python-proficient?

You'll struggle in the first three modules. We recommend a Python fundamentals course first (we'll suggest one in the application response). Apply again after — many alumni did exactly this.

How is this different from a bootcamp?

Bootcamps are ~16 weeks, $10-20K, designed for newcomers, and assume you have full days. Quietshift is 8 weeks, $1,200, designed for working engineers with 8 hrs/wk to commit, and assumes you already ship code. The vocab overlaps; the audience does not.

Refund policy?

Full refund within the first 7 days of cohort start, no questions asked. After Module 2 starts, refunds are evaluated case-by-case (usually granted for life events). Self-paced refund: 14 days, no questions.

Will employers reimburse?

Yes — most do for cohort tuition. We provide an invoice + program description on request. Ask your manager before applying; payment plans available if employer reimbursement comes after the cohort.

Can I take a cohort while working full-time?

Yes — the cohort is built for that. Two live sessions per week (Tuesday + Thursday evenings, 90 min each, recorded if you miss one) plus 4-6 hrs of async work. About 8-10 hrs/week total.

What happens if I fall behind?

Fewer than 5% of cohort students fail to complete. If you fall behind by more than one module, the instructor reaches out directly. Lifetime access means you can finish on the self-paced track at no extra cost.

Is the AI study assistant trustworthy?

It's scoped to the course content — refuses off-topic questions, cites the specific module, never invents APIs or syntax. It's a study tool, not a teacher. If a question requires judgment, it sends you to office hours.
